Had a client come in that was concerned about his stock sound system (amplified Focal speakers....if you call that stock)(owner didn't know that Focals were installed).
He's a true audiophile at heart....so Hybrid Audio Technologies is the first speaker that popped into my head. Wasn't sure about what model to go with, since it's a convertible; but the owner didn't want to install a subwoofer, so Clarus was the choice; they have a lower range of frequencies that they can play...so we squeezed the more amount of mid-bass out of them as we could. Owner had pre-selected an amazing deck, the Alpine CDA-117....truely an audiophiles headunit of choice.....more audio tweaking options that most need.....just enough for this project. The doors got a 3 layer sound deadening system (inner door skin, middle door skin, and inside door panel) to help the mid bass out as well as block some road noise. All of this was pushed by the Arc Audio KS Mini, 2 channel amp....perfect size to fit under the seat where most other amps wouldn't dream of fitting. Had a buddies new Legacy GT in today....swapped from his previous ride (Chevy Cobalt).
So we're putting in all his old (if you want to call it that) gear: JVC Double Din Deck Memphis 6.5" Component Speakers up Front Arc Audio 3 channel XDi amp pushing the memphis speakers and now (2) 10" kicker comp cr woofers This build was differnet as I had to order a dash kit and HVAC unit from Japan....basically anything with JDM on it will be expensive. Reason being, the GT models have dual climate control HVAC systems that are built into the stock deck, so you cannot simply take it apart and put it back in....so a new dash piece, HVAC unit, custom wiring harness, and mirrored hazard switch were needed. Install was straight forward, bass knob in top center compartment, amp under passenger seat, besides the sub, you can't tell anything was done...unless you looked at the deck. Cheers!! Had a sweet lifted truck in today. Owner put on all the mods himself, but decided to have Trax do the system. Got alot going in, so it was a full day.
Truck looks and sounds good now. Clarion DVD player with video bypassed, iPod input and steering wheel controls (coming this week). Arc Audio 3 channel XDi amplifier pushing (2) 10" Arc Audio XXD subwoofers in a custom made box that fits under the rear seats and Hybrid Audio Technologies Imagine Series 6.5" Component Speakers Invision Dual DVD player headrests Custom LED lighting in Dome light and under each persons' feet area. Custom mounted Backup Camera Cheers Got a decent sized project coming up as soon as I can fit it in.
DVD Player (Clarion) Front Components (Hybrid Audio) 3 Channel Amp (Arc Audio) Dual 10" Woofers (Arc Audio) Custom Box to fit under seat Got the box done today, had to bump out the woofers a bit more because Arc increased their tolerances, and added a 1/2" on the mounting depth for the XXD Woofers. NO biggy. Cheers! This is the second time I've worked on this Cobalt.
1st time as to fix an amp install gone bad. Original installed mounted the amp on the side wall, and cut the carpet out....so that's why I had to place the amp there.....when it comes back for the interior swap (going from all tan interior to black) I'll build a custom amp rack holder for it, so it'll look a bit better. Installed some Memphis Sync 6.5" Component speakers in the door. Swapped out the old Polk 300 watt amp for a new Arc Audio XDi803 amp. Pushes the front speakers with 80 watts each as well as gives the Kicker woofer 200 watts. Customer will either be getting another Kicker sub and bigger box so he can use all the 400 watts on the subwoofer side of the amp or will be getting dual Arc Audio XXD subs. Either way, with the addition of the front stage and a bigger box from the first time.....this system has come alive.....all we need now is a bit of sound deadener to stop the rattles and we're good. Got the newly painted pods attached, mounted and wired up.
Also, temporarily mounted the new RetroSounds radio in the dash...I say temporarily, because the previous owner used a badger or beaver of some type to make the hole a bit wider and the new radio doesn't sit in flush like i should.....so the owner will be repainting everything within the next year, so once that's done, the hole will be of perfect size and it'll look even more stock than it does already. Everything turned out great, owner is stoked and it sounds great......already have another set that needs to be made! Cheers Got the pods smoothed down and texture painted so they are ready for paint to match the existing wall in the bus....going to look sick in there. Already have another Bus owner that wants a set....better get them up on Samba!
Installed pics of everything will be coming up soon. Cheers Since the Roadster show is coming up, I thought it'd take care of some things on car so she's show ready.
My sub amp was fine, but didn't match my new 4 channel amp....so I get a new one and made a new amp rack cover....looking all better now! Cheers Worked on a friends Ranch truck.....Chevy Silverado.
New deck, speakers all around and a new....er amp to put the existing subwoofer. Sounded great and provided plenty of bump! Cheers Got to Project Liberty today.
2003 Jeep Liberty Pioneer Deck Install with Steering wheel controls retained and Bluetooth Arc Audio XXD 5 channel amplifier Infinity 6.5" Component Speakers up front Arc Audio 6.5" XXD Coaxial Speakers in the rear Arch Audio 10" XXD Subwoofer in a sealed carpeted box 4 gauge amp kit to make sure everything has enough power Jeep sounded good once everything was tuned and the customers left with a smile on their faces...so a success! Cheers! Snapped a few shots of some product we'll be installing in the next few weeks.
Arc Audio sound upgrade and a Kicker Amp/Sub install Cheers I say complete, because Kip (owner) is here for a month, and I've put off some things to get his feedback, and will finish everything up before he goes back to New York.
So here are some final shots....for now!! Figured out the best way to mount these monster Arc 6000 speakers....T-Nuts
Pre-drilled, secured and glued the T-Nuts to the speaker baffle....these aren't going anywhere. After that, put another layer of glass on the subbox, inside and out....I think after one more layer, I can FINALLY start to shape this thing! Cheers Was busy tonight, but didn't take any pics (sorry Kip).
Threw down some Kitty Hair on the box to fill some low spots...then put another layer of glass on the outside of the box. Started on the door pods....get the flush mount ring for the Arc Audio 6000's cut out and is drying currently....going to the hardware store today to get some T-Nuts for that, then I'll cut out the Plexi windo and plexi holder, glue those down, and hopefully get some fleece on them tonight.....too many things to do, too little time!! Started construction on the subwoofer box....this one is gonna be something I don't think I've seen before.....going to be a pretty cool shape from looking at it in the trunk, but also, as you can see by the 'tombstone' shape in the rear, will have a plexiglas window that will show off the magnet, but you'll only be able to see it from inside the cab, looking through the rear seat center arm rest opening....pretty trick!!
Check it! Removed the stock Rockford Fosgate amplifier under the driver seat and replaced that with a custom panel to house the escort radar system main hub. Hide all the wires that will power that, now, as you can see, all those little ports need to be filled....so that will be next!
You can see the stock amp is no match for what we're putting in the Evo...should be enough to make some noise! Cut out some 3/4" MDF and routed the edges so that it can sit flush inside the mold.....placed everything in the Evo, made sure it was level, then applied some glass and fiberglass strands to bond the wood to the wheel well mold.....once this dries, then I can pull it, fill the voids and glass a few layers and then I can start final construction on the subwoofer box. Finished up the rear door installs today.
Got the speakers mounted, secured and sound deadened/sealed. Vented properly through the door card so no sound waves are lost. Everything fits as if nothing was done...and it looks that way too....except when you knock on the outside door panel...then you can tell something was done....SOLID! Finished up the sound deadening on the rear doors
Ran new speaker wire in through the boots and made them look like they were supposed to be there. Fabricated some new 1" speaker spacers out of wood. After cutting them, I pre-drilled holes for mounting the speakers as well as the spacers to the doors. Now they are in a resin bath overnight, so they become stronger and won't crack over time. So work has finally begun!! Owner will be pleased!
Was a busy day today. Got his new drifting rims with high performance proxy TR5 summer tires ordered; and since he's going to be in snow this winter, I also got him some high performance winter tires to go on his stock rims. Tore apart the back trunk area to figure out the layout of the subs/amps back there. Have a few concept ideas that I sent to the owner, so we'll see if he likes them. Also started some removal and sound deadening. Only in the trunk, but that's the largest area. This trunk is kind of funky, so it's going to take a little longer than usually. Got about 75% done in the trunk last night.....not bad for an hours work. Keep posted! So I guess all I needed to do was actually open the door to the Evo last night to get some ideas rolling again. I've been so busy lately that I haven't even had time to think about Project Evo....just see it everyday I head off to work...that's about it. So last night, I poked my head inside the cabin for about 30 seconds and BOOM.....I already had ideas that needed to go on paper and other ideas to work out in my mind. Custom fiberglass door pods; front and back, with backlit LED/Plexi windows showing off brands and logos. That's about as far as I got, but the trunk is a whole other monster. I know what needs to be done, just need to figure out where to put everything...small trunk, too many stock access panels, and not enough room to put everything....we'll figure it out. Stay tuned for more updates!
My canvas: Front Doors Rear Doors Finally finished the test bench speakers. This way they are mobile. This does 2 things. Allows them to be moved around the shop, inside and out, for full sound; as well as when a customer wants to hear what they'd sound like, I can now move them into their car and crank it up. Selling Point!! Coated them in rhino lining to make sure they don't show too much wear and tear.
Almost done with the new shop test bench setup. The old one worked fine, for the area I had in the old shop, but with more room, I'm going horizontal rather than vertical.
Plus, with this new setup, my test speakers (Arc Audio KS 6009 components) will have more airspace, thus sounding more nartural. Once complete, I'll be able to test 12volt products such as CD Players, HID lights, LEDs, and much more. Test Amps; either 2 channel, 4 channel, or mono, all without unplugging anything from the back of the display anymore. This is how it should be done. Back to building! Started planning Project Evo tonight. Figured out a few locations for the amps, layout in the trunk and areas where all the gadgets and gizmo's will go. Trying to stuff a DVD player with nagivation, Bluetooth, Satellite Radio, and iPod hookups into a dash and throughout the car. Plus the addition of all the components for the high-end radar detector. Also, the amps and everything need a home in the rear! I think some metal is going to be in order!
Rewired the Arc KS 300.4 to run the fronts and a little 10" JL sub on the rear channels. This thing is now complete....finally. This is one good sounding Tacoma. All it needed was a little bass. We'll see what happens when the owner gets back. I see an Arc XXD 1500 in it's near future.
